Admit it, we watch too many Hollywood films and TV series that we cannot let go the idea of any favorite plot that instilled our head. It’s tiring to be creative and innovative all the time. But, in the industry wherein creativity and wide imaginations are necessary, they don’t have a choice – they should deserve what the audiences are paying for.
Robin Padilla and Regine Velasquez’s movie, ‘Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw’ is one of the examples of ‘Notting Hill’ copycat; or Sarah Geronimo’s ‘Idol’ is similar to Glee’s concept of musical-comedy series. But, let’s give them a shot. Filmmakers and TV scriptwriters want to provide a taste of Hollywood with ‘Pinoy’ flavors. I’m not judging anything. I just want to prove a point. Now, I’m becoming defensive.
When I first saw the upcoming teleserye of ABS-CBN, which will be the first team-up of Angel Locsin and John Lloyd Cruz, ‘Imortal’ –Oh, this is like Kate Beckinsale’s movie, ‘Underworld’. Vampire vs. Werewolf! Or Twilight perhaps – Edward and Bella (a one-hell-of-a-crap!).
According to Angel Locsin, ‘Imortal’ is a sequel to ABS-CBN’s hit TV soap “Lobo”, where she also played a werewolf. However, this will be a totally different story. (source: ABS-CBNnews.com)
‘Imortal’ will be directed by two of best directors in the Philippines; Chito Roño and Jerry Sineneng. It is set to premiere on October 4 on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida block after “Noah.”
So, will this be another copycat? We don’t know yet until we watch it closely.
