GMA News TV Coverage of Philippine Election 2010 – In Hologram
I got to see updates of the Philippine Election in TFC. I was amazed by the coverage done by ABS-CBN. It is really interactive, high-tech and fast. To be honest, I’m quite satisfied with the result of the election. Even though there are still unexpected incidents, or should I should expected incidents that only happen during Election Day, it’s quite satisfactory – voting by shading the egg-shaped figure, the counting, the transmission of result and the impeccable updates provided by media. But, if I was amazed by ABS-CBN, GMA-7 nevertheless won’t let the competitor to outshine them. They are using Hologram. How cool is that? It’s like I’m watching a Steven Spielberg film – Minority Report or Artificial Intelligence.
This might be new to Philippine TV but this isn’t new to those who witnessed the US Election when CNN made the coverage. Will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas is one of the Artists (Obama supporter) who appeared in the Hologram.
If you’ll compare this hologram thing used by both stations, CNN used a more defined technology. You can see the highlights on the edges of Will.i.am’s body. Unlike GMA-7′s hologram, it seems that Howie Severino has some smoke-effect — like when you are watching an Opening Performance in a concert. But anyway, definitely this is cool!

GMA was wrong when they used the term “HOLOGRAM” for their technology. what they did was just an “Augmented Reality”. “HOLOGRAM” is different from “Augmented Technology”. GMA is claiming to provide quality public service. Well, “quality” is synonymous with “accuracy”. Next time, do not mislead the viewers just to emphasize your edge over the other station. Be precise, be accurate.

Hmmmp… now I’m thinking if it’s really real or not… I was amazed by it.. but I saw as well what ABS-CBN is currently doing… like a camera – trick — seems to me that they want to point out… “hey, this is the same thing what GMA7 is doing?.. nothing exception… ”
what do you think so?

It’s fake.. I tried researching about it back in college and was planning to use it for my team’s thesis, sadly, it’s so advanced that there are only a few countries on that frontier. As it seems, Japan is on the lead and they’ve still got a long way to go. And they wont just let that technology slip onto other’s hands.. What they did was just a bunch of camera tricks used in movies that’s all. It’s also true about Noynoy’s shots with a chroma screen in the backgroud. The reason for the green chroma is because a person don’t have green in his/her body, making it easy to crop the image/video record and placing it with a new background. Much like adobe photoshop.

According to some sources GMA & tested it first on their studio then ofcourse did it in the field, the green screen effect (chroma) was used only to remove the background so everything looks clean.
So Kudos to GMA 7 also for doing a great job.

To Chris:
GMA 7 doesn’t show fakes on TV. There were no reports that GMA 7 have had fake figures and news reports. Unlike abs-cbn, during the Eclipse photos some time 3-4 years ago. They’ve shown fake ones of the Moon photos. They claim the Moon eclipse photo was real and genuine, while everybody wasn’t able to take the photo due to rain and blurd sky and really couldn’t see the moon. Even the experts with high tech cameras weren’t able to take the photo too. GMA7 has been awarded so many times internationally due do to it’s credibility and honest reporting. So very far with the rival station that I never knew there was even one award. It’s unfair that GMA 7 will be accused with showing fake figures. FYI, HOLOGRAM in the Philippines is shown first by GMA 7.
What more I doubt is the rival station’s Hologram. Because the very characteristic of HOLOGRAM is fluctuation and that they lack of it.

sorry but GMA has misled everyone when they used the term “HOLOGRAM” when in fact, what they’ve provided was just “Augmented Reality”. Try to research more about those terms to enlighten you with the truth.

Do not divert the issue here gentlemen… The use of technolgy here by gma only demonstrates how they are trying to bring world class news report to a higher ground… Well, the use of hologram technology may not be good at first, but its is certainly better than to wait and be passe… isn’t it?

The issue here really is that GMA misled everyone when they used the term “HOLOGRAM”. What they’re using is “Augmented Reality. Research more.

yep, gma 7′s supposed “hologram” was confirmed fake. according to tv patrol world’s report on the issue, the gma network used a green screen background to cut out the reporter or any other person’s body and snap it against a different environment – an old technology used by many networks.

It’s nice to know you like GMA’s Hologram. For the first time I’ve joined GMA War room. My job is to monitor all the remote sites. Like Dagupan,Zambales,Cebu,Davao,Iloilo. Because they are using a product called Video over IP. I got 3 sleepless nights.
thanks to PLDT and GMA for their support.

GMA7 hologram is fake , it’s obvious. Only a camera tricks ,that’s all. It is really a hologram, they should took a shots at differents angles. They only have on angle and it’s so stupid to believe. Hologram?
try to watch the holograms of CNN, there you’ll see the camera/ angle is moving giving you different dimension/ angle of the person being interviewed.
Trying hard gma7!

if the camera on gma7 moves while someone’s on their so called hollogram, then there’s a chance that its not fake..its doable even though its fake but i doubt gma7 can even do that..
its not that i’m mean but comments like yours make these monkeys laugh and continue to fool us coz we keep on believing them..maybe when many people realize that what they do sucks then they might think of giving us the real thing..lol

im pretty sure that hollogram’s fake.. these tv networks always has a way to fool us by saying nice things such as break-through technology, high-end special effects (ie mulawin), but if you’re someone who’s taking filmmaking or multimedia courses or working on one, specially if not here in the phil, you’ll find it very funny how horrible they do their stuff.
the thing is, these tv networks always wanted to make us believe that they are showing us the best and newest effects but its not, they are barely making an effort on what they are doing simply because its a business, they want to make a lot of money by doing less. that’s why they want you to believe that what theyre doing is the best, so that youre gonna watch their shows and they dont even have to make more effort off it..
