Despite the deep turmoil and catastrophe of our beloved country Philippines, we’ve been blessed with tons of graces from God. Being overwhelmed is an understatement, because the efforts of our fellow countrymen, regardless where they are, indeed exceptional. All the networking medium have been useful to spread the news; location of evacuation centers, where we can donate, and even who currently stranded are “tweeted”, shout-outed and brought across. Seriously, we don’t need a GPS. I truly believe, that this trait we posses, cannot be compared to any race!
I AM SO PROUD of my countrymen! They showed the sincerity and care for those in need. I AM SO PROUD of myself, that on my little ways, in prayers, in spreading the news to ask assistance and in uplifting the hearts of the people, I became an instrument. I AM SO PROUD, that I once told myself, “Masarap pala ang feeling ng nakatulong ka sa kapwa!”
The tragedy brought by Typhoon ‘Ondoy” should be remarkably remembered, but only see the good things that we perceived. There are so many things we must realize on this event:
- Material things are the LEAST important things in our lives. At some point, we’ve been aghast by the advanced technology that the world could offer. We’ve been driven by the superficial pleasures brought by our WANTS. However, these exist momentarily. These are torn, worn out and worse, taken away by fortuitous event.
- God’s call chooses no status. This isn’t liberating for all of us. We instill in our minds, or for some people that regard themselves as financially-challenged, that God is favoring rich and powerful people. But, what had happened proved us wrong. In Genesis, it rained for 40 days and 40 nights when God wanted to cleanse the world and start over.
- No man is an island. We need each other. We need our neighbors. We need help. We need to practice what our lolos and lolas taught us on “bayanihan.” We must be one to surpass all the calamities.
- Don’t Lose Hope. What would be our life after Ondoy? Will our donations be enough? We don’t have definite answers to that. However, we must not lose hope. Ondoy is now a history. We must not give up! Wake up people. We already went through the most disastrous and devastating moments; Colonization, Martial Law, Terrorism, Politics. We are still here, existing and living. Kaya Natin ‘To! Pilipino Tayo!
