Submit Website Sitemap to Yahoo

Hold that thought! Google is not the only search engine. Yahoo actually came first – like three years ahead! But now, Google has been proactively revolutionizing their internet services. Yahoo now is only best for web-based mail. Alexa reports that Yahoo is on its Top 3 as the most visited site worldwide.

Anyway, you must not limit the webcrawl to Google. As much as possible, create the sitemap to all search engines available. No doubt, your website will have lots of traffic. When I say traffic, that’s equivalent to visits, to clicks and to money!

Publicize your site in Yahoo! Directory and Yahoo! Search. I went to the official Yahoo! Site Explorer and clicked the link “Submit Your Site for Free”. You will be prompted to log in using your Yahoo! account. For those of you who do not have a Yahoo! account, simply sign up for one. It is Free.

Go to Site Explorer tab on the left and click on My Sites. Once you enter your Site URL, you’ll choose on if you’ll authenticate it by META Tags or HTML File. Copy the meta tag, and paste it into your site’s home page. It should go in the <head> section, before the first <body> section. What you’ll do is to go to your dashboard. In my case, I use WordPress for my website.

Go to Appearance –>Editor–> (on the right side, find the PHP file) –>Home.php
Replace the META TAG with the code generated by Yahoo Site Explorer. Once done, Save the Template. When you return to Yahoo Site Explorer site, you can click the button that says “Verify”.

In my website’s case, I don’t have a Home.php. Thus, I will use the second method by using the HTML file.

  1. Download the HTML verification file
  2. Upload this to the root/html on your file manager
  3. Visit the link http://www.yoursite.com/y_key_jpokfpdfdf.html
  4. Click on Verify

You will see a message that says “Your site is pending authentication.” Check back later, and you will notice that your site is now indexed and crawled by Yahoo!

According to the Yahoo Site Explorer instructions:-

“If you have added the META tag, please keep the tag in your site’s home page. We will revalidate your site ownership by checking this META tag regularly.”

You’ll receive the below message once it is authenticated:
