Submit Website Sitemap to Google Webmaster

google-spiderWell, it’s not really that easy to simple create a website and just wait for minutes so that Google will be able to recognize it. In due time, Google might do that. But, there are tools that Google provides to make it — FASTER!

Google Webmaster Tools is a no-charge web service by Google for webmasters. It allows webmasters to check indexing status and optimize visibility of their websites.

Submitting your Website to Google Webmaster will enable Google to find, index, and rank your site. For those who are new to this, you may go to the official Google Webmaster Tools site to create a new Webmaster profile.

When you log in to your Gmail account, key in your blog site URL, and click OK. You will then be asked to verify your site. This is to ascertain that you are indeed the owner of the site.

There are two ways to verify your site. You can either add a Meta Tag or Upload an HTML file. If you are using the Meta Tag method, Google will generate a Meta Tag code. Copy the meta tag, and paste it into your site’s home page. It should go in the <head> section, before the first <body> section. What you’ll do is to go to your dashboard. In my case, I use WordPress for my website.

Go to Appearance –>Editor –>(on the right side, find the PHP file) –> Home.php

Replace the META TAG with the code generated by Google Webmaster. Once done, Save the Template. When you return to Google Webmaster site, you can click the button that says “Verify”.

In my website’s case, I don’t have a Home.php. Thus, I will use the second method by using the HTML file.

  1. Download the HTML verification file
  2. Upload this to the root/html on your file manager
  3. Visit the link http://www.yoursite.com/gogglee3jpokfpdfdf.html
  4. Click on Verify

Congratulations! You have successfully added your Sitemaps. When you login to your Google Webmaster days later, you should be able to see the indexed pages and statistics of Google web crawl of your Site.
